When A bowl Of Water Is Unsteady
GuangZhou Daily News, 10/26/03
Negative news about Taiwan TV series "Zi Teng Lian" recently are pouring in. First, it was director Hu Xiulan quitting, then came a group of staff collectively leaving. The actors also complained about very badly prepared schedules by the production crew, frequently must wait for several hours. Lin Xinru wept on the set due to the cold treatment that was different from that of Korean star Han Jae Suk. She indicated [*** <--this is false; Ruby said no such thing about Mr. Han; it was allegedly from a staff member***] Han Jae Suk gets to shoot the minute he arrives, leaves after he's done, but she and other actors often must wait on the set for several hours, went to ask the executive producer, got this reply instead: "Don't know, why don't you just wait!" She was so mad tears came out.
Lin Xinru's salary in this serial is RMB $80,000 per episode, & Han Jae Suk's salary is U.S. $10,000, reasonably speaking, both are of the same level, should also receive the same treatment, but the situation says otherwise of Han being much regarded & Lin much less regarded, why? Generally speaking this proverb has been fulfilled: "Foreign monks can chant scriptures." Actually this particular matter, has already existed in China's entertainment and sports circles. Afraid that their TV serials will not get high ratings, so will hire 1 or 2 Korean stars to take up the lead roles, afraid the sports team won't have good results, so hire foreign coaches.
We all must acknowledge that foreign actors are professional, but foreign actors being professional, does not mean our country's actors have to be lower than them. Both parties are main leads, must obtain the same respect from the production crew, cannot say that b/c they are hired from the outside, we must especially be this respectful, & our "local ginger" is actually treated like dirt. At the present the entertainment circle has this kind of wrong idea: "They are hired from the outside/another country, it isn't easy for them to come here, must receive/entertain them well. And local actors are plentiful, if you don't want to film it, there are many others who wants it, simply does not need to be careful." It's b/c of this type of thinking, that has created that sometimes obviously the foreign stars are only guest starring, in supporting roles, but they're more showy/demanding than the lead actors, w/ the look of "servant girl acting bigger than the mistress". The production team being this shameless/favors one and discriminate against the other like this, how can Chinese actors not sadly shed tears?
Actually foreign actors don't necessarily must have such demands, all the investors have to do is just do what the contract stipulates, treat all actors impartially, have "the bowl of water steady", then certainly will not see a situation like Lin Xinru crying to occur again.
