Lin Hsinju Speaks Freely About Her Growth & Experiences: "HZGG" Let Me to Know Acting
Lin Hsinju, this youthful & young red-hot actor, successfully molded an abundance of vivid, lovable images loved by many fans. Speaking of age and acting career, this kind of contrast is without a doubt huge. This kind of huge contrast is like a catalyst when it comes to her growth, compared with her contemporaries, have a bit more maturity, self-confidence, becoming traces of her growth. On the other day, Lin Hsinju was a guest of "FTV- Xin Qing Dian Shi" to speak freely about her growth & experience --
"Did some advertisments during high school, but they were done during the winter and summer breaks, after graduation someone gave me an opportunity to be in a movie, at that time I had already applied to attend school[college] overseas, thought it must be fun, haven't tried out this acting thing, so wanted to give it try. I was in my second year of high school when I first got involved in film & TV industry, at the time when I got the script, I couldn't sleep for days, I thought the opportunities for me to study abroad are many, but one does not bump into the opportunity to be in a movie everyday, just go & have a try, if filming movies have no meaning, then still can go back to school. But thinking good thoughts about it was easy, when the actual filming started, only then knew it wasn't that easy. At that time it was a film taking place in a school, played a class leader, in a scene there was a slogan, stand up, stand at attention, salute, took about 10-20 tries, I was so scared of the director scolding at me, the feeling of frustration[or setbacks] was quite big."
"Even though that was an extremely painful attempt, but after that time I actually liked acting, I liked the particular feeling of being in character. But after that I was in a stage of not warm-not hot, w/ no progress, the in-situ feeling that I had had me extremely worried. "Huan Zhu Ge Ge" let me know what acting was, at that time the role of Zi-Wei and my character[personality] were quite similar, at that time I had to realize what this personality was, at that time I started to know, there are certain small skills that actors must be able to grasp, also the [interaction b/w] relationship w/ other actors. From then on, I slowly realized what things an actor must have, I understood it, to be a good actor, must give 110% of hard work, must give 110% of sacrifice. I'm not a professionally-trained actor, all aspects of acting I had to find out about by myself[thru trial & error], these kinds of works will not be scolded by people, therefore, each time making a movie, only I would know about all the tearful[sad, bitter] sacrifices I have made. From all the characters that I have played in, there's a serial that gave me the biggest pressure -- "Ban Sheng Yuan", b/c the entire story's ups & downs[fluctuations] were extremely big, experienced a greate deal of tribulations, b/c of my prior acting experience, I put forth more heart & effort into the interpretation of this character[role], at that time the pressures were overwhelming, it was so big I got rashes on my skin, just a scratch from my hand will turn it really red, didn't know what kind of weird sickness I had, was it due to me being unaccustomed to the climate, b/c it was shot in Shanghai, after we finished w/ the serial they just naturally vanished, I told this company's boss about this matter, he said yes, the pressures you all went through were too great. When we were shooting "HZGG", each of our faces were full of pimples, perhaps b/c the pressures were too big, then the weather got really hot, can't do anything about it, sometimes for the sake of a movie/serial, one must sacrifice a lot of things."
"As actors, have to deal w/ pressures on one hand, on the other have to endure the many tough shooting locations[environment], but all these really doesn't matter, I usually treat them as a kind of enjoyment, this perhaps has to do w/ my possitive views on things, or perhaps I was trying to be happy amidst adverse circumstances, I actually enjoyed these adverse conditions, I think they're very interesting. We had a lot of raining scenes in the series, most of the raining scenes were concentrated towards the end of the shoot, already was near the end of the year, so it was very, very cold, everyone worked very hard to wrap ourselves w/ Saran wrap[or Reynolds wrap if u don't like Saran--heehee. I think that's what it is--some sort of plactic wrap or something], we wrapped ourselves really tight for for 3-4 days straight, we were afraid of the water seeping through. I lost some weight from wrapping up for all those days, b/c to lose weight, girls usually put on fat-reducing cream first, then wrapped themselves up w/ plastic wrap, in order set off heat."
"I'm not a professionally-trained actor, & only have a high school education, been around in the entertainment business for quite a while now, sometimes I want to just drop everything, attend school to study things that interest me, sometimes I would also think back if I had chosen school back then, & not be in this business, perhaps I would have become a totally different person right now. But w/ all the sacrifices & hard work I have put in all these years, I can feel my own growth, I can feel the happiness of growing up each & everyday, this[feeling] is quite good. For actors who delve themselves into the movie physically & mentally, each movie is a complete experience, each scene also is a unique realization of life, from each grasp of the different characteristics of the roles, to the understanding of their destinies, while I'm molding those characters, they in turn have also molded me. I feel that in doing different things, there are gains & losses, I've lost some, but on the other hand I've also gained a lot, will not say there are regrets or what have you." Will be broadcast on Saturday, June 28, 2003.
